Installing a Theme

  1. Download the ZIP: executive.zip or landscape.zip. Do not unzip it.
  2. In WordPress go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
  3. Choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate.

If the upload fails with "The link you followed has expired", your host's upload limit is too low – ask your host to raise upload_max_filesize, or unzip the theme and upload the folder to wp-content/themes/ via SFTP.

Executive Setup

Homepage

  1. Create a page called "Home", choose the Homepage Template under Page Attributes / Template, add a short introduction and a featured image (used in the hero area), and publish.
  2. Create an empty page called "Blog" and publish it.
  3. Under Settings → Reading, select "A static page" and set Home as the homepage and Blog as the posts page.
  4. Under Appearance → Customize → Theme Options, choose the three featured pages (and the optional secondary page) shown on the homepage. Featured images are used for each featured page.

Menus

Executive has three menu locations: Main Menu, Social Menu (add custom links to your social profiles; icons are added automatically) and Footer Menu. Assign them under Appearance → Menus or in the Customizer.

Portfolio

The portfolio templates use the Jetpack Portfolio custom post type. Install Jetpack, enable Portfolios under Jetpack → Settings → Writing → Custom content types, then create a page with the Portfolio template.

Other options

Landscape Setup

Homepage

  1. Create a page called "Home" with the Homepage Template. A single paragraph describing your site works best.
  2. Create an empty page called "Blog".
  3. Under Settings → Reading, set Home as the homepage and Blog as the posts page.
  4. Under Appearance → Customize → Landscape Options, choose the three featured pages. Give each a featured image.

Social links

Go to Appearance → Menus, create a menu called "social", tick the Social theme location and add custom links to your profiles.

Header image

Replace the default header image under Appearance → Customize → Header Image.

Customising Safely with a Child Theme

Theme updates overwrite files inside the theme folder. Put custom CSS in Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS, or create a child theme: a folder such as executive-child with a style.css containing Template: executive in its header and a functions.php that enqueues the parent stylesheet.
